NASA and Netflix are collaborating! Why?

Ana sayfa / News

NASA is collaborating with Netflix to increase interest in space research. The institution’s live broadcasts will now be available to watch on the Netflix platform. Thus, all important missions, from rocket launches to live connections from the International Space Station, will reach millions through one of the world’s largest digital broadcast platforms.

NASA began broadcasting live content from astronaut training to spacewalks on the digital broadcast platform it established under the name “NASA Plus” (NASA+) in 2023. However, the platform’s access limits and awareness were not enough to reach the targeted audience. For this reason, NASA began looking for a new channel to reach a wider audience. This search resulted in a new agreement with Netflix.

Netflix had previously entered the live broadcast format with a limited number of content. The company had made its first attempts in this area, especially with sports matches, reality shows and stand-up shows. This new partnership with NASA means that the platform will diversify its live broadcast category with science and technology content.

According to the agreement, all content broadcast on NASA+ can now be watched simultaneously on Netflix. Viewers will be able to follow NASA’s official broadcast stream directly on the Netflix platform, from the immediate developments on the launch pad to the most critical moments of space missions.

Netflix’s over 700 million viewers worldwide presents a great opportunity for NASA. In a statement released, the institution stated that this collaboration will increase social interest in space programs. The main goals of the collaboration are to attract the attention of young viewers in particular and to increase scientific awareness.

Netflix will not be the only address for these broadcasts. NASA+ will continue to operate as an independent platform. In addition, live broadcasts can be accessed free of charge through NASA’s official applications.
